Lake and Irving to go

A number of local restaurants have changed up their menus and added items better suited to carry out. Lake and Irving added several varieties of smoked wings to their menu so we ordered online and picked them up for dinner.

The wings were large and meaty, but either the wings did not travel that well or the sauces were not very flavorful. The wings are smoked, but I didn't get any smoky flavor in the meat.  I love Lake and Irving normally, but  I am not sure I'd order the wings again.

Lake & Irving Brunch

John and I went to Lake and Irving for brunch recently and I realized I have not done a post on their brunch. We’ve made it back here now and then for dinner or lunch, but I don’t think we’ve had their brunch before.

I had the breakfast sandwich with Lowry Hills sausage patty, bacon, sous vide scrambled egg, American cheese, shallot aioli, brioche, breakfast potatoes. I was not crazy about the breakfast potatoes, but they were crisp and had some rosemary, slat and other seasoning on them. Once I added some hot sauce they were great.

John had the garden scramble with 3 eggs, Sonoma chevre, baby spinach, shiitake mushrooms, tomatoes, wild rice wheat toast, breakfast potatoes. I did not get to try a bite. It disappeared too quickly. It must have been delicious.

The service was just fine and the food arrived pretty quickly. As usual, a great visit.

Lake & Irving revisit

I went back to Lake & Irving recently with a couple of friends and we tried a few more items on the menu. We had a great meal with a wonderful server. I don't have a lot to add to my previous review, other than all of our food was perfect and I'd like to try more items on the menu.

Lake & Irving

John and I went down to Uptown for a food truck fair awhile back, but the lines were so long and insane that we ended up going to Lake & Irving for lunch instead. We had been tossing around the idea of going there for awhile anyway, so it worked out fine as the restaurant was not that busy on a Sunday afternoon.

I started with a margarita, which had El Jimador Tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, Grand Marnier and a li-Hing mui rim. The li-hing mui on the rim is a red powder consisting of ground plum skin that was pickled in a combination of licorice, food coloring, salt and sugar and sometimes aspartame. (Yes, I had to look that up!) It added an unusual, but very flavorful sweet and salty taste to the drink. This was one of the best and most unique margaritas I’ve ever had.  

The brunch menu was still being served when we arrived and we did not feel like breakfast food. We both ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich with fried Kadejan Farms chicken, Patisserie 46 sourdough, Compart Duroc bacon and pepperjack. This was a great chicken sandwich. The chicken was so crispy and juicy and cooked perfectly. The bacon and cheese added just the right amount of saltiness to the sandwich. The fries were also very good, very crisp and fresh.

 The service was fine and the ambiance was relaxed. The room has lots of large windows in the front and wood floors for a somewhat bright and rustic feel. The food was ordered was excellent and I think we need to go back again for dinner to try more items on the menu.
